Shruti

" Shruti is the audible musical sound in the form of a microtone."

Shruti is traditionally described in music as 'one which can be heard as musical sound is shruti'.

There are 22 shruti-s widely accepted in North-Indian classical music. Swara-s are based on shruti-s. In vocal music the subtleties of shruti-s can enhance and unfold a raga beautifully.

Raga
" Raga (Raaga) is melodic, aesthetic, scientific,
improvised with a group of specific notes
bound by traditional rules and characteristics,
expressive of a sentiment (rasa) that colours the mind,
pleases the soul."

Raga (Raaga) has its characteristics such as ascending/Aaroha & descending/Avaroha movements, Vaadi & Samvaadi / Main & Assistant notes, Anuvaadi/ notes other than vaadi-samvaadi, Rasa / sentiment, Prahar/ the time of the day for raga-performance, Chalan / raga's gait and a few other subtleties with which it is improvised. Raga is pronounced as Raaga in Indian classical music.
An invocation on Sound
( an excerpt from Booklet : Naada )

' Naada rupa param brahma '
Sound is God

Universal self is the nature of sound.

Supreme God is the nature of sound.

Universal energy is the nature of sound.

Therefore the Creation has sound as its own self.
